Activity Type Configuration
Carbon Management is a module within the Akila Carbon Management Suite. It includes Activity Type Configuration and Emissions Log. You can use Activity Type Management to add and manage activity types.
You can use it to:
- Record and manage emission logs.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Activity Type | Types of emission activities that generate GHG emissions according to the emission categories in GHG scopes 1, 2 and 3 as defined in the GHG Protocol |
| Associated to an Activity | If the activity type is associated with energy or waste logs, select "Yes". If the activity type does not need to be associated and can upload logs directly, select "No". |
| Scope | Scope 1: Direct emissions - GHGs emitted directly by the organization.Scope 2: Indirect emissions from purchased electricity, heating/cooling, or steam for the organization's own use.Scope 3: Other indirect carbon emissions beyond Scope 2, also known as value chain emissions. These are emissions from upstream and downstream activities related to the organization's operations (e.g., waste disposal, supplier emissions, etc.). |
| Emission Factor | GHG emissions per unit of emitting activity. CO2e and the unit of CO2e represent the emission factor value corresponding to this activity type. You can select a unit from the mass unit group. For example, if the emission factor for an activity type is 200 tCO2e/kg, then the activity unit is "kg", CO2e is "200", and the unit of CO2e is "t". |
| Basic Mode | Activity-Based Carbon Emission Configuration: Configure and categorize carbon emission activities, matching them with corresponding emission factors for precise tracking.Data Upload: Upload emission logs for each site.Emission Calculation: Calculate emissions at the site level based on user uploads and configurations, then aggregate them at the organizational level, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting.Data Visualization: Generate informative charts and graphs to visually represent site and organizational emission data. |
| Linked Mode | All functions available in Basic Mode.Energy & Waste Integration: Automatically sync activity data (defined as carbon emission activities) with your energy and waste management systems. |
Activity Type Management
Add Activity Type(Basic Mode)
- Click "Add".
- Select "No" under "Associated to an Activity".
- Select "Scope" and "Category".
Note: This is designed according to the GHG Protocol. You need to determine the emissions scope for your enterprise. - Input "Name" of the activity type.
Note: If you click "Multi-language", you can configure multiple language translations for the type name so it displays appropriately in different language environments. If you do not configure it, the same activity type name will be displayed in all language environments. - Select "Activity Unit Group" and "Activity Unit"
- Select "Site".
- Enter "CO2e" and "CO2e Unit".
Note: The default option for "Apply Multiple Factors" is "No". If you keep this default, proceed to the last step. If you select "Yes", continue with steps 8-10. The emission factor entered in this step will serve as the default if the emission date does not match any factor in the applied period. - Select "Yes" under "Apply Multiple Factors?".
- Select "Applied Period Start Date" and "End Date".
Note: You can add multiple periods with different emission factors, but they cannot overlap. You can add up to 10 emission factors maximum. - Enter "CO2e" and "CO2e Unit".
- Click "Submit".
Add Activity Type(Linked Mode)
- Click "Add".
- Select "Yes" under "Associated to an Activity".
- Select "Associated Activity Source", "Associated Activity Type", and "Supply/Consumption".
Note: If you choose "Energy", you need to select its supply/consumption. These need to match between this page and the Energy Source Configuration page. This is mainly applied to carbon emissions calculation. If you choose "Waste", you need to select its waste type and category, which are configured on the Waste Type Configuration page. This will help you integrate carbon emissions across the Carbon Management Suite, Energy Suite, and Waste Suite. - Select "Scope" and "Category".
Note: This is designed according to the GHG Protocol. You need to determine the emissions scope for your enterprise. - Enter "Name" for the activity type.
Note: If you click "Multi-language", you can configure multiple language translations for the type name so it displays appropriately in different language environments. If you do not configure it, the same activity type name will be displayed in all language environments. - "Activity Unit Group" and "Activity Unit" are non-editable.
Note: They will be displayed according to what you select in step 3. - Select "Site".
- Enter "CO2e" and "CO2e Unit".
Note: The default option for "Apply Multiple Factors" is "No". If you keep this default, proceed to the last step. If you select "Yes", continue with steps 9-11.
The start date can be the same day as the end date within one emission factor. - Enter "CO2e" and "CO2e Unit".
- Click "Submit".
Edit Activity Type
- Filter and click the activity type you want to edit.
- Click "Edit".
- Edit the selectable fields.
Note: Includes "Scope", "Category", "Activity Type Name", "Site", "CO2e", and "CO2e Unit". - Click "Save".
Note: You can review the edit log when you re-enter the activity type details page.
